Foundation
for customizing SX.enterprise
SX.architect provides simple, read-only access to the entire source code for
SX.e. By keeping access read-only, we safeguard your ability to take new releases
of SX.e. This insures that you maintain continuity with the balance of the SX.e
install base and enhances the overall supportability and reliability of the product.
You can leverage the techniques stored away within SX.e to build your own custom
reports, queries, and other custom menu items. and maintain the upgradability
that is so important to the long-term viability of your system. Although the
source is read-only, SX.architect provides you with complete access to all modules
to research how SX.e functions internally. The SX API Code Viewer component of
SX.architect includes a powerful search engine and tools designed to drill down
into supporting code based on the results of your search.SX.architect also includes
the SX API Web-based tool. In addition to providing design and object level documentation,
it provides the ability to search on cross-referenced information. You can run
searches by:
Processes (all objects containing a specified procedure)
Indexes (all objects containing a specific index)
Fields (all objects containing a specific database field)
Tables (all objects creating or deleting a specific table)
The Cross Reference component allows you to query into specific objects to see
how they are used and where they are used. This can provide invaluable insight
into the mechanics of building your own reports and custom objects.
Foundation for development
success
Because it is vital that your development team be equipped with the knowledge
and the skill sets required to accomplish your software goals, SX.architect
provides intensive training classes. The three classes in SX.architect are
as follows:
- Architect for Report Writing explains how to integrate your
own custom inquiries, reports, and other custom menu items
with SX.enterprise. This is done via the Progress® programming
language; attendees should have attended a training course
in Progress or be an experienced Progress developer.
- Architect for Character Developers explains the advanced
concepts of customizing the character portion of SX.enterprise.
It includes topics such as changing the database, inserting
custom code into character SX.e, and Progress event-driven
functionality within SX.e. Attendees should have attended a
training course in Progress or be an experienced Progress developer.
- Architect for Graphical Developers explains the concepts
of customizing the GUI portion of SX.enterprise. It focuses
on the component-based architecture of SX.e. One of the main
goals of the class is to teach developers how to make their
own custom modifications in such a way that they can smoothly
upgrade their custom software to the next release of SX.e Attendees
should have an understanding of SX.enterprise. They should
also be familiar with the Progress language and the Progress
AppBuilder tool.
